POLICY 1-2.1                COMPOSITION OF THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD

The Montgomery County School Board shall be composed of seven (7) members, one from each of the seven election districts of the county, and elected as authorized by applicable law.

Members serve four-year terms.  Elections are staggered so that School Board members from Districts A, C and D begin their terms effective January 1 of any given year while members from Districts B, E, F and G begin their terms two years later.

Any interested candidate for the position of School Board member must comply with all legal requirements to be a candidate.  This includes, but may not be limited to, filing the following documents with the Montgomery County Registrar by the applicable deadline (usually approximately five months prior to the election):  (1) a declaration of candidacy, (2) a certification of candidacy, and (3) a petition containing the requisite number of signatures of registered voters in the candidate’s district.

School Board elections are non-partisan.  Candidates are urged to contact the State Board of Elections to obtain complete information.
