POLICY 1-2.5                COMPENSATION AND EXPENSES

Compensation

Each member of the Montgomery County School Board shall receive an annual salary as provided by law.  The School Board shall not be awarded a salary increase unless, upon affirmative vote by the School Board, a specific salary increase, within the limits set be law, shall be approved.  Because School Board members are elected on staggered terms, the affirmative vote necessary to establish a salary increase must occur prior to July 1 of any year in which at least one-half of the School Board members are elected, as required by applicable law.  The salary increase shall be effective January 1 of the year following the vote.

Expenses

Members of the School Board shall be reimbursed for actual expenses incurred in the performance of official duties including but not limited to travel, food and lodging. School Board members may be reimbursed for private transportation at the same rate authorized for Montgomery County Public School employees, including travel to and from regular and special meetings.
