POLICY 4-3.4 NAMING AND DEDICATION OF FACILITIES

 

Naming

 

                The Montgomery County School Board shall be responsible for the naming or renaming of schools, and the following procedure shall apply:

 

1.             The School Board shall appoint a committee of two persons from the immediate community to be served by the particular school and one representative from each of the following groups: a teacher from the area for the new school; a Parent-Teacher Association representative from the area; the School Board member in whose district the school will be located; and one administrator from the same area.

 

2.             The school-naming committee shall then present a recommendation to the division superintendent who will forward it to the School Board.

 

                3.                The School Board shall then make the final selection of the name.

 

                Portions of facilities such as gymnasiums, auditoriums, and athletic fields shall be named as follows:

 

1.             The principal of the school involved shall appoint a committee composed of administration, faculty, parents and/or patrons, and students.

 

2.             The committee shall present a recommendation to the division superintendent who will forward it to the School Board.

 

                3.                The School Board shall then make the final selection of the name.

 

                 Dedication          

 

            The School Board may have a public dedication ceremony following completion of major building projects.
